Hi Faith! Is that picture new?
嗨,费思!那张照片是新拍的吗?
Hi, John, yes, my friend sent me this photograph. I love trees.
嗨,约翰,是的,我的朋友给我发了这张照片。我喜欢树。
You know, sometimes when I teach grammar I like to make comparisons to trees.
你知道吗,有时候当我教语法的时候,我喜欢把它和树做比较。
Really? How does a trunk branches and leaves compare to a sentence?
真的吗?树干、树枝和树叶怎么和句子相比?
Here's how I think about it.
以下是我的想法。
English sentences consist of a subject and a predicate.
英语句子由主语和谓语组成。
The subject is generally a noun phrase, and the predicate--- the part of the sentence that says something about the subject, generally begins with some kind of verb phrase.
主语通常是一个名词短语,而谓语——句子中描述主语的部分,通常以某种动词短语开头。
So, are the subject and predicate like the roots and trunk of the sentence?
那么,主语和谓语就像句子的根和干吗?
Yes, they provide stability and strength.
是的,它们提供稳定性和强度。
They are the basis of the sentence.
它们是句子的基础。
I see.
我明白了。
Then we move out to the branches and leaves.
然后我们移到树枝和树叶上。
These are different kinds of modifiers, adjectives, adverbs, and so on.
这些是不同种类的修饰语,形容词,副词等等。
Let's take an example.
让我们举个例子。
Consider this sentence: The students consider the class a challenge.
考虑一下这个句子:The students consider the class a challenge.
We can start by identifying the subject and predicate of the sentence.
我们可以从识别句子的主语和谓语开始。
We have the subject, the noun phrase "The students."
我们有主语,名词短语“The students”。
Then we have the predicate which begins with the verb "consider."
然后我们有谓语,动词“consider”开头。
English grammar Books sometimes use special drawings to break apart sentences and to their individual parts.
英语语法书有时会使用特殊的图表来分解句子并展示它们的各个部分。
These drawings, known as sentence diagrams, often look like trees that are turned on their sides.
这些图画被称为句子图,通常看起来就像被翻转过来的树。
Future lessons will explore more about grammar and trees.
我们在未来的课程将更多地探讨语法和树。
And that's everyday grammar TV.
这就是本期的《每日语法》电视节目。
