Lagarde under investigation in fraud case

Under formal investigation - IMF chief Christine Lagarde. It's over her alleged role in a long-running political fraud case. Lagarde was previously questioned by magistrates in Paris as a witness. But Political Sciences professor Christian Delporte says the move doesn't mean she's guilty .

But still, it adds to all the formal investigations into the right-wing and Christine Lagarde could have been an alternative for the right in 2017 and this today jeopardises her chances."

The inquiry into tycoon Bernard Tapie has also embroiled several of former president Nicolas Sarkozy's cabinet members. Tapie - who supported Sarkozy in the last two elections - was awarded 403 million euros in a 2008 arbitration payment under Sarkozy's presidency. It was to settle a dispute with the now defunct, state-owned bank Credit Lyonnais. Lagarde was finance minister at the time.

Surf's up in the US. Giant waves as large as six metres -- caused by hurricane Marie began hitting the Southern California coast, drawing spectators and surfers. But the surf is also dangerous and has made challenging work for life guards.

These swells and dangerous wave conditions are expected to continue through Thursday despite the storm weakening.

At least 120 healthcare workers throughout West Africa have died from this latest outbreak of the virus. Ebola, which is one of the deadliest diseases known to man is transmitted by contact with body fluids. First detected in March, it has claimed the lives of at least 1,427 people throughout western Africa. Doctors Without Borders says it could be months before quarantine and other containment measures begin to have an effect.
