The boy was waiting patiently for her, and when she had taken leave of the tower-keeper, she asked the boy:
男孩耐心地等着她，当她向看守塔的人告辞后，海蒂问：
"Do you know where Mr. Sesemann's house is?"
“去塞瑟曼家怎么走？”
"No," was the reply.
“不知道。”他回答说。
She described it as well as she could, till the boy remembered it.
她尽可能详细地描述了这件事，直到男孩记起来。
Off they started, and soon Heidi found herself pulling the door-bell.
他们出发了，到了之后，海蒂拉了拉电铃，
When Sebastian arrived he said: "Hurry up."
马上出现了塞巴斯蒂安，他一见海蒂就催她：“快点快点！”
Heidi went in, and the boy was left outside, for Sebastian had not even seen him.
海蒂慌忙跑进去。塞巴斯蒂安慌慌张张地没注意到外面站着个男孩，就把门关上了。
"Come up quickly, little Miss," he urged.
“快点，小姐，”塞巴斯蒂安又催她。
"They are all waiting for you in the dining-room.
“他们在餐厅里等着你。
Miss Rottenmeier looks like a loaded cannon. How could you run away like that?"
罗得迈尔像上了子弹的大炮一样。小姐，你跑出去干了些什么？”
Heidi sat down quietly on her chair. Nobody said a word, and there was an uncomfortable silence.
海蒂静静地坐在椅子上。没有人说话，接着是一阵令人不安的沉默。
At last Miss Rottenmeier began with a severe and solemn voice: "I shall speak with you later, Adelheid.
罗得迈尔严厉地对她说：“阿尔菲特，待会儿我要和你好好说说，
How can you leave the house without a word? Your behavior was very remiss. The idea of walking about till so late!"
你怎么能什么都不说就跑到外面去，真的很不像话，走到这么晚。”
"Meow!" was the reply.
“喵——”的一声，像是对罗得迈尔的回答。
"I didn't," Heidi began—"Meow!"
“我没有，”海蒂开始说话，“喵——”
Sebastian nearly flung the dish on the table, and disappeared.
塞巴斯蒂安差点儿把盘子扔到桌子上，就不见了。
"This is enough," Miss Rottenmeier tried to say, but her voice was hoarse with fury. "Get up and leave the room."
“够了，”罗得迈尔说，嘶吼中带有愤怒，“起来离开房间。”
Heidi got up. She began again. "I made—" "Meow! meow! meow!—"
海蒂惊慌地从椅子上站起来，又想辩解，“我，其实，只是——喵——，喵——，喵——！”
"Heidi," said Clara now, "why do you always say 'meow' again, if you see that Miss Rottenmeier is angry?"
“可是海蒂，”这回克拉拉说话了，“罗得迈尔那么生气，你怎么还总是说喵喵呢？”
"I am not doing it, it's the kittens," she explained.
“不是我，是小猫说的。”海蒂解释道。
"What? Cats? Kittens?" screamed the housekeeper.
“啊？你说什么？小猫？”罗得迈尔叫起来。
"Sebastian, Tinette, take the horrible things away!"
“塞巴斯蒂安！齐娜！把可恶的畜牲扔出去！”
With that she ran into the study, locking herself in, for she feared kittens beyond anything on earth.
说完，她跑进书房，把自己锁在里面，因为她害怕猫，比世界上任何东西都可怕。
When Sebastian had finished his laugh, he came into the room.
塞巴斯蒂安本来站在门外，他必须先尽情笑够了才能进屋去。
He had foreseen the excitement, having caught sight of the kittens when Heidi came in.
他早就发现海蒂衣兜里露出了小猫脑袋，所以刚才他一直在等着瞧瞧会发生什么事。
The scene was a very peaceful one now; Clara held the little kittens in her lap, and Heidi was kneeling beside her.
现在这是一个非常平静的场面;克拉拉把小猫抱在膝上，海蒂跪在她旁边。
They both played happily with the two graceful creatures.
他们都和这两个可爱的小动物玩得很开心。
The butler promised to look after the new-comers and prepared a bed for them in a basket.
塞巴斯蒂安答应照顾新来的小动物，并在篮子里为它们准备了一张床。
A long time afterwards, when it was time to go to bed, Miss Rottenmeier cautiously opened the door.
过了很长时间，大家都睡下的时候，罗得迈尔才把门打开了细细的一条缝，从里面叫：
"Are they away?" she asked.
“那可恶的东西已经扔了吗？”
"Yes," replied the butler, quickly seizing the kittens and taking them away.
“已经扔了！”塞巴斯蒂安回答。然后他麻利地抓起两只小猫走出去。
The lecture that Miss Rottenmeier was going to give Heidi was postponed to the following day, for the lady was too much exhausted after her fright.
罗得迈尔原来打算的对海蒂的教训挪到了明天。因为罗得迈尔又恼火又惊吓，已经精疲力尽了。
They all went quietly to bed, and the children were happy in the thought that their kittens had a comfortable bed.
小姑娘们都安静地上床睡觉了，想到小猫有一张舒适的床，她们都感到很高兴。
