I think it's important to talk about Deputy Mitcham's background to learn a little bit about who she is, why she became a police officer, and how she was thinking about this case and feeling about this case, everything that brought us to this moment here with Patience.

Deputy Mitcham also had a really hard upbringing. She grew up with a mom that was not always present.

They lived in an area of Reno that was, you know, known for having a lot of crime, a lot of drug activity.

Deputy Mitcham told me, you know, at a point, she was dating somebody who had law enforcement in his family, and it occurred to her that she wanted a job that brought order to the chaos, the kind of chaos that she experienced as a kid.

She had very particular views and feelings about abortion as an issue.
