On August 6, a gossip blogger released a recording of a conversation between Zhang Haowei and a girl.

At one point in the conversation, Zhang Haowei claimed, "Recently, Dai Xiangyu said that the investigation into Li Yifeng's case has caught up to him. His involvement in the case of soliciting prostitutes may soon be exposed."

Dai Xiangyu issued a quick response after the audio recording was released. He posted a "Certificate of No Criminal Record" to prove his innocence.

He also posted a lawyer's letter threatening to sue Zhang Haowei for defamation. He demanded an apology within three days, otherwise he would take him to court.

In response to Dai Xiangyu's post, Zhang Haowei issued two statements to clarify and apologize.

Dai Xiangyu's wife, Chen Zihan also chimed in on the matter. The 46-year-old actress posted a message to support for her husband, and even joked that her husband is finally famous.

Dai Xiangyu then responded to Zhang Haowei's apology. He reshared Zhang Haowei's statement and wrote that he was not angry but felt helpless.

He said he believed that Zhang Haowei did not mean what he said, and that he was "in a private setting and quick to speak, and taken advantage of by someone with ulterior motives."

He also thanked his wife in his post, "I am very lucky to have a wife who trusts and believes me unconditionally."
