Chapter 2 With the Grandfather
第二章 在爷爷家
After Deta had disappeared, the Uncle sat down again on the bench, blowing big clouds of smoke out of his pipe.
蒂提的身影消失后，爷爷又坐到长椅上，默默地从烟斗里吐出烟雾，
He did not speak, but kept his eyes fastened on the ground.
只盯着地面，不说一句话。
In the meantime Heidi looked about her, and discovering the goat-shed, peeped in.
可是海蒂却高兴地左顾右盼，并发现紧挨着小屋，有一个山羊住的小棚子，她朝里面望去。
Nothing could be seen inside. Searching for some more interesting thing, she saw the three old fir-trees behind the hut.
里面空荡荡的。她到处找着还有没有什么别好玩的东西，就看到小屋后头有几棵老枞树。
Here the wind was roaring through the branches and the tree-tops were swaying to and fro.
那里，大风吹过粗壮的树干，树梢发出刷刷、沙沙的响声。
Heidi stood still to listen.
海蒂停下脚步，竖起耳朵听。
After the wind had ceased somewhat, she walked round the hut back to her grandfather.
过了一会，那声音安静下去，她转过小屋的另一角，便又回到了爷爷面前。
She found him in exactly the same position,
可是爷爷的姿势和刚才她离开时一模一样。
and planting herself in front of the old man, with arms folded behind her back, she gazed at him.
海蒂站在爷爷跟前把两手背到身后，目不转睛地看着爷爷。
The grandfather, looking up, saw the child standing motionless before him.
终于，爷爷抬起头，看到一动不动地站在那儿的小女孩。
"What do you want to do now?" he asked her.
他问道：“你想干什么？”
"I want to see what's in the hut," replied Heidi.
“想看看你屋子里有什么。”海蒂回答。
"Come then," and with that the grandfather got up and entered the cottage.
“好，来吧！”爷爷站起身带她朝门口走去。
"Take your things along," he commanded.
并吩咐她：“把那包衣服也一起拿来。”
"I do not want them any more," answered Heidi.
“那些东西我已经不想要了。”海蒂说。
The old man, turning about, threw a penetrating glance at her.
爷爷转过头，用锐利的目光盯住她。
The child's black eyes were sparkling in expectation of all the things to come.
海蒂黑亮的眼睛里，充满了好奇和期待——屋子里有些什么东西？
"She is not lacking in intelligence," he muttered to himself.
“这孩子好像还不是那么蠢。”爷爷小声嘀咕了一句，
Aloud he added: "Why don't you need them any more?"
接着大声说：“为什么不需要了？”
"I want to go about like the light-footed goats!"
“我想像山羊那样走路，山羊跑得非常快。”
"All right, you can; but fetch the things and we'll put them in the cupboard."
“你要那样也行。不过，包还是要拿进来。得把它放到壁橱里去。”
The child obeyed the command.
海蒂听从了爷爷的命令。
