Curious about my new surroundings, I finally crawled off and explored the inside of the car,
我对周围的新环境感到好奇，所以我从她的腿上爬下去，探了探车里的情况。
astounded at the rich, cold air coming from two vents in front of me.
我前面的两个通风口里涌入的冷风吓得我一激灵。
Against my wet fur the air was so chilly I actually began to tremble, and wound up climbing onto the flat floor on the other side of the car,
湿漉漉的毛迎着冷风，让我感到寒冷甚至开始发抖。最后，我爬到车另一边的地上，
where a soft warmth, just like Mother, quickly lured me back into another nap.
那里很温暖，就像妈妈一样，于是我很快就又打了个盹。
I woke up when the car stopped, sleepily regarding the woman as she reached down and picked me up.
当车停下时，我醒了，迷迷糊糊地看着那个女人，她俯下身，伸手把我抱了起来。
“Oh, you are so cute,” she whispered.
“天呐，你真可爱，”她低声说。
As she held me against her chest and stepped out of the car I could feel her heart beating strongly and I sensed something like alarm coming off of her.
她把我抱在胸前从车上下来时，我能清晰地感觉到她的心跳，我感觉到她有点担忧似的。
I yawned off the last vestiges of my nap and, after a quick squat in some grass, was ready to face whatever challenge had her so worked up.
我又打了个呵欠，算是彻底清醒了过来，然后我迅速蹲在草地上，准备好迎接那个让她感到激动的的挑战。
“Ethan!” she called. “Come here; I want you to meet someone.”
“伊森！”她喊道。“过来，有个新伙伴想让你认识一下。”
I looked up at her curiously.
我好奇地抬头看着她。
We were in front of a big white house, and I wondered if there were kennels in the back, or maybe a big yard.
我们站在一个白色的大房子前，我想知道那里面有没有狗窝，或者有没有可能有一个大院子。
I couldn’t hear any barking, though, so maybe I was the first dog here.
但我没有听到狗叫声，所以也许我是这里的第一只狗。
Then the front door of the house banged open and a human being like I’d never seen before
然后房子的前门砰地一声打开了，一个我从未见过的人出现了。
ran out on the porch, jumped down the cement steps, and stopped dead in the grass.
他跑到走廊上，跳上水泥台阶，然后愣愣地站在草地上。
We stared at each other.
我们俩面面相觑。
It was, I realized, a human child, a male.
我意识到，这是一个人类的小男孩。
His mouth broke into a huge grin and he spread his arms.
他咧开嘴笑了并张开双臂。
“A puppy!” he sang, and we ran to each other, instantly in love.
“小狗狗！他激动地叫着，我们立刻跑向对方，感情瞬间升温。
I could not stop licking him and he could not stop giggling, and we rolled together in the grass.
我不停地舔他，他也不停地咯咯笑，我们一起在草地上打滚。
