While the Station Master patrolled the platform,
当站长在站台上巡逻时，
Professor Ueno stood beside a woman in a green cotton kimono patterned with butterflies and fastened at her waist with an obi the color of pale jade.
上野教授站在一位身穿印有蝴蝶图案的绿色棉质和服的女士旁边，她的腰上系着一条浅绿色的宽腰带，颜色像白玉。
Her belongings were all tied up in a green cloth furoshiki.
她所有的东西都用绿色的布包了起来。
She balanced the tidy bundle on her right palm.
她把整整齐齐的包袱放在右手掌上。
With her other hand, she smoothed her small son's sailor suit.
她用另一只手抚平了小儿子的水手服。
When at last the woman was satisfied with the boy's school uniform, she brushed some wisps of hair away from his forehead with her fingertips.
当那位妇女终于对男孩的校服满意时，她用指尖拂去了男孩前额上的几缕头发。
"Look, Okaasan."The boy broke from his mother's fussing and pointed."A dog is waiting for the train."
“看,Okaasan。”男孩从他母亲的大惊小怪中挣脱出来，用手指了指。“一只狗在等火车。”
He held his hand out toward Hachi, but his mother pulled it back.
他向八公伸出手，但他的母亲把它拉了回来。
"Yasuo, be careful. He might bite."
“日本首相,小心些而已。他可能会咬人。”
"He will not hurt you." The Professor knelt down between the boy and Hachi."He is very gentle."
“他不会伤害你的。”教授在男孩和八公之间跪下。“他很温和。”
"What is his name?"asked the boy.
“他叫什么名字?”男孩问。
"His name is Hachi,"answered the Professor as he stood up."And I am Eizaburo Ueno."
“他的名字叫八公，”教授边回答边站了起来。“我是上野音三郎。”
"I am Mrs. Takahashi,"said Yasuo's mother, bowing her head.
“我是高桥太太，”Yasuo的母亲低下头说。
"And this is Yasuo, my son. Yasuo is very curious."
“这是Yasuo，我的儿子。Yasuo很好奇。”
As if to prove his mother's point, Yasuo bowed and immediately posed another question.
似乎是为了证明他母亲的观点，Yasuo鞠躬并立即提出了另一个问题。
"What kind of dog is Hachi?"he asked the Professor.
“八公是什么狗?”他问教授。
"Yasuo,"Mrs. Takahashi said,"do not be such a bother."
“日本”,夫人。高桥说:“别那么麻烦。”
"It is no bother,"said the Professor.
“不麻烦，”教授说。
"I am happy to answer your question.
“我很乐意回答你的问题。
Hachi is a very special dog called an Akita-ken,"he said proudly.
八公是一种非常特别的狗，叫做秋田犬，”他自豪地说。
