The Lion's Share
狮子的份额
The Lion went once a hunting along with the Fox, the Jackal, and the Wolf.
有一次，狮子和狐狸、豺、狼一起去打猎。
They hunted and they hunted till at last they surprised a Stag, and soon took its life.
他们不停地搜寻追捕，终于，他们捕获了一只牡鹿，并很快取了它的性命。
Then came the question how the spoil should be divided.
接下来的问题是，如何分配这个战利品。
"Quarter me this Stag," roared the Lion; so the other animals skinned it and cut it into four parts.
“给我这只牡鹿的四分之一，”狮子吼道；于是其他动物给鹿剥了皮，把它切成了四份。
Then the Lion took his stand in front of the carcass and pronounced judgment:
然后狮子站在尸体前宣布：
"The first quarter is for me in my capacity as King of Beasts; the second is mine as arbiter; another share comes to me for my part in the chase; and as for the fourth quarter, well, as for that, I should like to see which of you will dare to lay a paw upon it."
“第一个四分之一给作为百兽之王的我；第二个四分之一给作为仲裁者的我；第三份给我在捕猎中出的那份力；至于第四份，好了，至于这一份，我倒想看看你们谁敢伸出爪子放在上面。”
"Humph," grumbled the Fox as he walked away with his tail between his legs; but he spoke in a low growl.
“哼！”狐狸夹着尾巴走开了；但他低声说道。
"You may share the labours of the great, but you will not share the spoil."
“你会找人分担艰难的劳动，却不愿分享战利品。”
