- A cock was once strutting up and down the farmyard among the hens when suddenly he espied something shining amid the straw.
- 有一次,一只公鸡在农家院里的母鸡中间大摇大摆地走来走去,突然他看到稻草里有什么东西在闪闪发光。
- "Ho! ho!" quoth he, "that's for me," and soon rooted it out from beneath the straw.
- “哈!哈!”他说,“那是我的”,很快就把它从稻草下面刨了出来。
- What did it turn out to be but a Pearl that by some chance had been lost in the yard?
- 那原来是一颗偶然失落在院子里的珍珠吗?
- "You may be a treasure," quoth Master Cock, "to men that prize you, but for me I would rather have a single barley-corn than a peck of pearls."
- “对于那些珍视你的人来说,你可能是一笔财富,”公鸡说,“但对我来说,我宁愿要一粒大麦,也不愿要一堆珍珠。”
- Precious things are for those that can prize them.
- 珍贵的东西是给那些懂得珍视的人的。
