But as he fell he was changed from a frog into a handsome Prince with beautiful eyes,

who, after a little while became, with her father's consent, her dear companion and betrothed.

遵照国王的旨意，他成为小公主亲密的朋友和伴侣。

Then he told her how he had been transformed by an evil witch,

直到这时候，王子才告诉小公主，原来他被一个狠毒的巫婆施了魔法，

and that no one but herself could have had the power to take him out of the fountain;

除了小公主以外，谁也不能把他从水潭里解救出来。

and that on the morrow they would go together into his own kingdom.

The next morning, as soon as the sun rose,

a carriage drawn by eight white horses, with ostrich feathers on their heads, and golden bridles,

一辆八匹马拉的大马车已停在了门前，马头上都插着洁白的羽毛，一晃一晃的，马身上套着金光闪闪的马具。

drove up to the door of the palace, and behind the carriage stood the trusty Henry, the servant of the young Prince.

停在了门前，车后边站着王子的仆人——忠心耿耿的亨利。

When his master was changed into a frog,

当王子被变成一只青蛙之后，

trusty Henry had grieved so much that he had bound three iron bands round his heart,

他悲痛欲绝，于是他在自己的胸口套上了三个铁箍，

for fear it should break with grief and sorrow.

免得他的心因为悲痛而破碎了。

But now that the carriage was ready to carry the young Prince to his own country,

而现在马车来接年轻的王子回他的王国去，

the faithful Henry helped in the bride and bridegroom, and placed himself in the seat behind, full of joy at his master's release.

忠心耿耿的亨利扶着他的主人和王妃上了车厢，然后自己又站到了车后边去，心中满是王子被解救后的欢喜。

They had not proceeded far when the Prince heard a crack as if something had broken behind the carriage;

他们上路后刚走了不远，突然听见噼里啪啦的响声，好像有什么东西断裂了。

so he put his head out of the window and asked Henry what was broken, and Henry answered,

于是他把头伸出窗外问亨利什么东西被打破了，亨利回答说，

"It was not the carriage, my master, but a band which I bound round my heart when it was in such grief because you were changed into a frog."

“我的主人，那不是马车发出的声音，而是当我的心因为你变成一只青蛙而悲伤时，我用铁箍把它紧紧地箍住。”

Twice afterwards on the journey there was the same noise,

后来路上又出现了两次噼里啪啦的响声。

and each time the Prince thought that it was some part of the carriage that had given way;

每一次，王子都以为是马车的某个部分坏了。

but it was only the breaking of the bands which bound the heart of the trusty Henry, who was thenceforward free and happy.

其实不然，忠心耿耿的亨利见主人是那么地幸福，因而感到欣喜若狂，于是那几个铁箍就从他的胸口上一个接一个地崩掉了。
