Today, we want to provide you with some explanations on how to use the prepositions WITH, TO and FOR with the verb PROVIDE.

Can you even use different prepositions with the same verb?
同一个动词可以与不同的介词搭配使用吗？
Sure you can. Here is our first example:
当然可以。第一个例子来了：
Tom's visit to the United States provided him with an opportunity to learn English.
汤姆的美国之行给他提供了一个学习英语的机会。
When the verb PROVIDE is followed by indirect object HIM, you need to use WITH.
动词provide后接间接宾语him时，需要使用with。
Providing someone WITH something means to give something that the person wanted or needed.
Providing someone with something的意思是给予某人所想或所需的某物；
Providing FOR can mean to make something happen in the future or make something available to a person.
providing for指使某事在未来发生，或指使某人得到某物。
Exactly. Like: Tom will provide for his family while he's away.
非常正确！例如：汤姆虽然出差，但仍承担家庭的开支。
So providing something TO or FOR someone usually means that you are giving something to someone.
因此providing something to/for someone通常是指你给予某人某物。
Here's another example:
例如：
The restaurant provides free appetizers to all its customers.
这家餐馆给用餐的所有顾客提供免费的开胃小菜。
free appetizers is the direct object; "customers" is the indirect object. But you can also say:
其中free appetizers是直接宾语，customers是间接宾语。你也可以这样说：
The restaurant provides free appetizers for all its customers. Both are correct.
这家餐馆给用餐的所有顾客提供免费的开胃小菜。这两个句子都是正确的。
