Huang Xuhua, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, recipient of the Medal of the Republic, and chief designer of China's first-generation nuclear submarines, passed away at the age of 99 on Thursday due to illness despite medical treatment in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, according to an obituary on Friday.
根据周五的讣告，中国工程院院士、共和国勋章获得者、中国第一代核潜艇总设计师黄旭华，在中国中部湖北省武汉市接受治疗后，于周四因病去世，享年99岁。

人们聚集在一起向黄致敬，鲜花沿着城墙伸展，这是一座城市对英雄和科学家的致敬。
"Your legacy endures forever!" At the entrance, flowers from across China—Shandong, Guangdong, Shanghai, Ningxia—are neatly arranged. Messages on the cards express deep remembrance of Huang.
“功绩长存，永垂不朽！”山东、广东、上海、宁夏……入场处，记者现场看到，有来自全国各地的民众送来的鲜花，整齐摆放，卡片上的留言道出对黄老的无尽追思。
Wuhan resident Xu Liang and three generations of his family came to pay tribute to Huang.
武汉市民徐良一家三代人，前来吊唁黄旭华院士。
"Academician Huang was a pillar of the nation. We must never forget that our good life today was hard-earned," said 64-year-old Xu Li, his eyes brimming with tears.
“黄院士是国之栋梁，我们一定不能忘了，今天的好日子来之不易，要永远怀念他、永远纪念他。”64岁的爷爷徐立眼含热泪，哽咽说道。
After hearing of Huang’s passing, Xu Liang borrowed his biography from the library to share his inspiring story with his six-year-old son.
徐良说，得知黄院士逝世的消息后，他专门去图书馆借阅黄老个人传记，给6岁的儿子徐景行讲述黄老感人事迹。
"We should look up to heroes like him," said ninth grader Hou Keyu. After learning of Huang’s passing, Hou and three classmates brought flowers to pay tribute.
“我们年轻一代追星就应该追这样的星，学习就该学这样的人！”武汉市武珞路中学东湖校区初三学生侯柯羽说。从网上得知黄老去世的消息，自己和三位同学约定一同前来为黄老献花。
"His dedication inspires us to study hard and contribute to our country’s future."
“他的奉献精神激励着我们努力学习，为祖国的未来做出贡献。”
In Huang’s hometown Shanwei, Guangdong province, his alma mater Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the Navy Museum in Qingdao, people have gathered in tribute, offering flowers and holding memorials.
在黄旭华院士家乡广东汕尾、母校上海交通大学，以及我国首艘核潜艇退役展示地山东青岛海军博物馆，人们自发前来，或送上鲜花，或举行追思会，缅怀和致敬黄老。
