Kerry vows to protect Asia allies while pursuing peace on Korean peninsula
克里誓言保护亚洲盟友 寻求朝鲜半岛和平
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry meets with his Japanese counterpart Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo Sunday, with the two calling for North Korea to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
周日,美国国务卿约翰·克里在东京会见了日本外交部长 Fumio Kishida,两国都呼吁朝鲜放弃其核计划 。
JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER FUMIO KISHIDA SAYING: "We strongly oppose North Korea's holding any nuclear arms." The meeting comes as North Korea prepares for the biggest holiday of the year Monday, the Day of the Sun, the birth date of state founder Kim Il-Sung. Against this backdrop Kerry pledged support as he called for peace.
日本外交部长Fumio Kishida 说:“我们强烈反对朝鲜持有任何核武器 。”会议之际,朝鲜正准备星期一举行的年度最大庆典——太阳之日——即国家领袖金日成的诞辰 。在此形势下,克里承诺他将给与支持,并呼吁和平 。
U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY SAYING: "It is very simple - that the United States will do what is necessary to defend our allies, Japan, Republic of Korea and the region against these provocations. But our choice is to negotiate. Our choice is to move to the table and find a way for the region to have peace." For weeks North Korea has threatened to attack the United States and South Korea since new U.N. sanctions were imposed in response to its latest nuclear arms test in February.

China hit by more bird flu cases
中国爆发更多禽流感病例
Public health workers on high alert in Shanghai - where another person has fallen ill with bird flu. China state television said Sunday the victim was a 56-year-old man whose wife died from the H7N9 virus earlier this month. A total of 55 people have been infected in the latest outbreak of bird flu - 11 have perished. There is concern that if the disease jumps from person to person, it could spark a pandemic. But the World Health Organization says that hasn't happened.
中国上海又发现一例新禽流感病例,医务人员进入高度警惕状态 。中国国家电视台周日称,患者是一名56岁的男子,其妻子于本月早些时候因H7N9病毒去世 。目前已有55人感染最新爆发的禽流感病毒,其中11人死亡 。有人担心病毒是否会在人与人之间传播,或发生大规模的爆发 。但世界卫生组织表示目前还不会出现这种情况 。
WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION (WHO) CHINA REPRESENTATIVE MICHAEL O'LEARY SAYING: "It's that ease of transmission that we are concerned about, and there's no evidence of that yet." Meanwhile, a case of the virus was reported in the capital Beijing, far from the original cluster. That has worried some residents, who still have vivid memories of a deadly outbreak of the SARS virus in 2003.
世界卫生组织(WHO)中国代理人奥莱利表示:“我们现在担心的是流感容易传染,但目前还没有迹象证明 。”与此同时,远离病毒爆发地的首都北京也发现了首例流感病例 。许多人对2003年爆发的致命非典病毒仍记忆犹新,这次流感也引发了一些居民的担忧 。
29-YEAR-OLD YAN NA SAYING: "First of all, we need more transparent information, so as not to not repeat SARS and try to make (information) more public, which could make us more comfortable." China has been anxious to avoid the panic that accompanied that outbreak, promising total transparency.

Kerry sees opportunities in new leadership in China

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is greeted by Chinese President Xi Jinping Saturday at the start of his two-day trip to the country. Kerry has made no secret of his desire to see China take a more active stance towards North Korea -- which has recently threatened nuclear war against the United States and South Korea. He later met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. As they two sat down -- the premier spoke of common ties.
在中国进行为期的两天访问中,美国国务卿约翰·克里在周六受到是中国主席习近平的欢迎 。克里毫不掩饰自己希望中国对朝鲜最近威胁要核打击美国和韩国的事件采取更加积极的态度 。随后克里会见了中国总理李克强 。两人坐下后,李克强总理谈及了两国的共同关系 。
CHINESE PREMIER LI KEQIANG SAYING: "China and U.S. indeed have huge common interest. Decades of practice after establishment of Sino-U.S. diplomatic relations has proven that our common interest is far more than dispute. In addition, as big countries, China and U.S. have a responsibility to maintain the peace and stability of region and the world." Kerry said new leadership in China offers opportunities.
中国总理李克强说:“中美两国确实存在巨大的共同利益 。中美建交几十年的历程证明我们存在的共同利益远大于争议 。另外,作为大国,中美都有责任维护地区以及世界的和平与稳定 。”克里表示在中国新的领导层看到了机会 。
U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY SAYING: "We very very much look forward to building on what the president just described to me as the potential of a new model, a model relationship, obviously this is a critical time in the region as well as in the world. We are very grateful to China for its cooperation with us on Iran and on a number of other issues." Kerry's visit comes after weeks of North Korean threats of war after new U.N. sanctions were imposed in response to its third nuclear test in February.
