Peter: Christmas is a time when people celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. But now I find young people in China celebrate it even though they don't care about religion.
彼得：圣诞节是人们庆祝耶稣基督生日的节日。现在中国越来越多的年轻人尽管不信教，却在过圣诞节。
Cynthia: Well, people like holidays. And even in the United States, Christmas is becoming more secularized with all the shopping and gift-giving. Many people are just having a great time.
辛西娅：人们喜欢过节嘛。即便是在美国，圣诞节也是更加世俗化了，人们买东西，互送礼物，很多人就是开开心心地过节而已。
Peter: But that's different. Maybe many people don't realize it, but Christianity is inextricable from western society. The west has been influenced by it at every turn of history for over a thousand years.
彼得：但这不一样。也许很多人都没意识到，但基督教和西方社会是密不可分的。在过去的一千多年中基督教一直在影响西方社会历史的走向。
Cynthia: Probably that's true, but we are bringing Chinese characteristics into it. On Christmas Eve, people give their friends beautifully wrapped apples which are called 'ping' meaning peace in Chinese.
辛西娅：也许你的话没错，但我们也把中国特色加入了进来。平安夜人们把包装好的苹果送给朋友，因为“苹”谐音“平”，有“平安”之意。
Peter: Oh, that has puzzled me for ages!
彼得：我以前一直都不明白这是怎么回事。
Cynthia: You see? So don't make a fuss.
辛西娅：现在你明白了吧，所以就别大惊小怪了。
Peter: You are right.
彼得：你说的对。
