听对话,根据对话内容选出最佳答案,并将答案的标号A,B,C,D写在答题纸上的相应位置。

British English and American English are really about the same, aren’t they?

英式英语和美式英语其实差不多,不是吗?

I don’t think so. It seems to me that some of the spellings are different.

我不这样认为。在我看来,有些拼写是不同的。

Words like “theater” and “center” end in r-e in England instead of in e-r like we spell them.

诸如“theater”和“center”这样的单词在英语中以r-e结尾,而不是像我们拼写的那样,以e-r结尾。

There are more examples, like the word “color”.

还有更多的例子,比如“color”这个词。

In fact, many words that end in o-r in American English are spelled o-u-r in British English.

事实上,美式英语中许多以o-r结尾的单词在英式英语中都拼写为o-u-r。

I’m still not convinced.

我还是不信服。

I mean, if someone comes here from England, we can all understand what he’s saying.

我的意思是,如果有人从英国来到这里,我们都能理解他在说什么。

The spelling doesn’t really matter that much.

拼写并没有那么重要。

Okay. Are we just talking about spelling?

好吧。我们只是在谈论拼写吗?

Are there any differences in pronunciation and meaning too?

在发音和意思上也有区别吗?

Well, in fact I remember seeing an English movie where the actors kept calling their apartment a flat.

事实上,我记得我看过一部英国电影,演员们一直把他们的公寓叫做flat。

Half of the movie was over before I realized what they were talking about.

电影看了一半我才意识到他们在说什么。

So there are slight differences in spelling and some vocabulary.

因此,在拼写和一些词汇上略有不同。

And pronunciation, too.

发音也是如此。

You aren’t going to tell me that you sound like Richard Burton.

你不会是要告诉我你听起来像理查德·伯顿吧。

Richard Burton’s English.

理查德·伯顿是英国人。

Okay. Anyway, the pronunciation is different.

好吧。不管怎么说,发音不一样。

I think what we’re really disagreeing about is the extent of the difference.

我认为我们真正存在分歧的是差异的程度。

We all agree that British English and American English are a little different, right?

我们都认为英式英语和美式英语有一点不同,对吗?

Sure.

当然。
