Many countries have hailed the DPRK's decision to halt its nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles. China said this will help ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in the region. Beijing also pledged support for joint efforts in promoting regional peace. Russia welcomed Pyongyang's declaration but called on the U.S. and South Korea to also reduce military activity in the region. The European Union said it is a positive and long-thought step. However Germany added that Pyongyang must reveal its nuclear and missile programme.
Meanwhile United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres said he had hoped for the negotiations with the DPRK and the path is open for peace on the Korean Peninsula. I think there is a hope I believe that if things go well and I hope things will go well they will prove that the Security Council can be effective when it is united. I believe in North Korea. The path is open for the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. And it also proves that diplomacy is the way to solve conflicts. It's not war. It's diplomacy.
