His latest statement of regret was to European Union lawmakers. They were questioning him about consulting firm Cambridge Analytica's access to the personal data of millions of Facebook users including many in the EU. Zuckerberg pretty much echoed what he said last month to US lawmakers.
It's also become clear over the last couple of years that we haven't done enough to prevent these tools from being used for harm as well. And that goes for fake news, foreign interference in elections and developers misusing people's information. We didn't take a broad enough view of our responsibility. And that was a mistake and I'm sorry for it.
Since lawmakers asked all their questions before Zuckerberg answered, he did manage to dodge some such as if Facebook would ever allow users to opt out of targeted advertising. The hearing was held just three days before tough new EU rules on data protection take effect. Zuckerberg goes on next to Paris.
