Hi, John, let's continue our lesson on libraries. There's so much to talk about.
嗨,约翰,我们继续关于图书馆的课。有很多东西需要讲。
In a recent lesson, we learned about phrasal verbs.
在最近的一节课中,我们学习了短语动词。
These are idiomatic structures that consist of a verb and another short word or words.
它们都是惯用结构,由一个动词和另一个或多个短词组成。
Together, the words take on a meaning different from what the individual words suggest.
这几个词组合在一起后,与单个单词的意思是不一样的。
Today, we will pay careful attention to the phrasal verb look for.
今天,我们会来看看短语动词look for。
Look for means to search for something, or to try to find something.
look for是指寻找某事的方法,或试图找到某样东西。
We often use a noun or noun phrase after the phrasal verb look for.
我们经常在短语动词look for之后加上名词或名词短语。
You might look for general things or exact things.
你可能会找很笼统的东西,也可以是很具体的某样东西。
For example, if you enjoy science fiction books in general, you could say I am looking for science fiction books.
例如,如果你喜欢科幻小说,你可以说我正在寻找科幻小说。
But if you want to find an exact book, you might say something like this.
但如果你想找到某一本确切的书,你可能会这么说。
I am looking for "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Ursula K.Le Guin, or I am looking for "Dune" by Frank Herbert.
我在找乌苏拉·k·勒奎恩的《黑暗的左手》,或者我在找弗兰克·赫伯特的《沙丘》。
Let's end with a quiz.
最后来个小测试吧。
