"I will say the spell, "said Lucy. "I don't care. I will. "

She said I don't care because she had a strong feeling that she mustn't.
她之所以说我不管, 是因为她心中有个声音驱使她这么做。
But when she looked back at the opening words of the spell, there in the middle of the writing, where she felt quite sure there had been no picture before, she found the great face of a lion, of The Lion, Aslan himself, staring into hers.
但是正当她回头去看那条咒语时, 她肯定原来没有任何画面的字里行间, 多了一只狮子----狮王阿斯兰的脸正凝视着她。
It was painted such a bright gold that it seemed to be coming towards her out of the page;and indeed she never was quite sure afterwards that it hadn't really moved a little.
金光灿灿, 那狮子仿佛要向她迎面走来。事后她也不敢十分肯定画上的狮子是不是真的有过这个举动。
At any rate she knew the expression on his face quite well.
总而言之, 她非常清楚狮子脸上的表情。
He was growling and you could see most of his teeth.
他分明是在咆哮, 她都能看见他的大半口牙。
She became horribly afraid and turned over the page at once.
她吓得不得了, 赶紧翻到另一页。
A little later she came to a spell which would let you know what your friends thought about you.
过一会儿她又翻到一条咒语：可以知道你朋友对你的看法。
Now Lucy had wanted very badly to try the other spell, the one that made you beautiful beyond the lot of mortals.
其实露茜心里很想试试刚才那条咒语, 那条可以变得倾国倾城的咒语。
So she felt that to make up for not having said it, she really would say this one.
所以为了弥补没念刚才那条咒语的损失, 要念念这条看看。
And all in a hurry, for fear her mind would change, she said the words(nothing will induce me to tell you what they were).
她怕自己改变主意, 就匆匆忙忙念了咒语( 我是不会告诉你们这些咒语的)。
Then she waited for something to happen.
念完她就等着结果。
As nothing happened she began looking at the pictures.
结果什么也没有出现, 她只好继续看起插图来。
And all at once she saw the very last thing she expected-a picture of a third-class carriage in a train, with two schoolgirls sitting in it.
她突然看见最意想不到的一幕----一节三等车厢, 坐着两个女学生。
She knew them at once. They were Marjorie Preston and Anne Featherstone.
她认出她们一个是玛乔丽·普雷斯顿, 一个是安妮·费瑟斯通。
Only now it was much more than a picture. It was alive. She could see the telegraph posts flicking past outside the window.
不过现在这不仅是一幅画了, 里面的景物都会动, 她看得见车窗外电线杆飞驰而过。
Then gradually(like when the radio is"coming on")she could hear what they were saying.

"Shall I see anything of you this term ?"said Anne, "or are you still going to be all taken up with Lucy Pevensie. "

"Don't know what you mean by taken up, "said Marjorie.
"不知道你说的跟着她鬼混是什么意思。"玛乔丽说。
"Oh yes, you do, "said Anne. "You were crazy about her last term. "
"你懂的, "安妮说, "上学期你对她可是相当忠心。"
"No, I wasn't, "said Marjorie. "I've got more sense than that. Not a bad little kid in her way.
"不, 我没有, "玛乔丽说, "我又不是没脑子, 我不会那么做的。其实她也不是个坏孩子,
But I was getting pretty tired of her before the end of term. "
但是上学期还没结束我就讨厌死她了。"
"Well, you jolly well won't have the chance any other term !"shouted Lucy.
"得了吧, 你以后都不会有这个机会了!"露茜生气地叫着,
"Two-faced little beast. "But the sound of her own voice at once reminded her that she was talking to a picture and that the real Marjorie was far away in another world.
"口是心非的混蛋。"可是听到她自己的声音那么大, 突然想起她是在跟一幅画说话, 真正的玛乔丽在另一个世界呢。
"Well, "said Lucy to herself, "I did think better of her than that.
"好吧, "露茜自言自语说, "我以前觉得她人不错。
And I did all sorts of things for her last term, and I stuck to her when not many other girls would.
上学期还替她做了很多事, 别的女孩不大理她, 只有我维护她,
And she knows it too. And to Anne Featherstone of all people!
这点她心里应该有数。可是她偏要去找安妮·费瑟斯通!
I wonder are all my friends the same? There are lots of other pictures. No. I won't look at any more.
真想知道我其他朋友是不是也一样?这儿还有很多图。不, 还是不看了,
I won't, I won't and with a great effort she turned over the page, but not before a large, angry tear had splashed on it.
不看了, 决不再看了。"她费了好大劲儿翻过这页, 可是很快, 一大滴愤怒的眼泪就滴在了上面。
On the next page she came to a spell"for the refreshment of the spirit.
下一页是一条"提神"的咒语。
The pictures were fewer here but very beautiful.
插图虽少, 却很美。
And what Lucy found herself reading was more like a story than a spell.
露茜觉得她看的不是咒语, 更像是一篇故事。
It went on for three pages and before she had read to the bottom of the page she had forgotten that she was reading at all.
故事有三页, 她还没看完, 就忘了自己是在看书。
She was living in the story as if it were real, and all the pictures were real too.
她感觉自己生活在故事中, 好像这是真事似的, 所有的画面也像是真的。
When she had got to the third page and come to the end, she said, "That is the loveliest story I've ever read or ever shall read in my whole life.
当她翻到第三页, 看到最后一行, 她说："这是我所看过的最美的故事, 恐怕以后再也看不到这么美好的故事了。
Oh, I wish I could have gone on reading it for ten years. At least I'll read it over again. "
哎, 真希望能一直看上十年。至少再看一遍。"
But here part of the magic of the Book came into play. You couldn't turn back.
谁知这本书的魔法却突然起作用了。只能向后翻,
The right-hand pages, the ones ahead, could be turned;the left-hand pages could not.
不能往前翻, 看过的书页再也翻不回来了。
"Oh, what a shame !"said Lucy. "I did so want to read it again. Well, at least I must remember it.
"哎, 真是太邪门了。"露茜说, "我真想再看一遍, 好吧, 至少, 让我记住。
Let's see... it was about... about... oh dear, it's all fading away again.
我看看……写的是……是……天啊, 图文竟然都消失了。"
