Chapter Seven
第七章
One of my favorite things to do was to learn new tricks, as the boy called them,
我最喜欢做的事情之一就是学习新戏法，这是那个男孩的叫法，
which consisted of him speaking to me in encouraging tones and then feeding me treats.
玩儿这种戏法的时候，他会用鼓励的语气和我说话，然后喂我奖励吃。
“Sit,” for example, was a trick where the boy would say, “Sit, Bailey! Sit!”
例如，其中一个戏法是“坐下”。那个男孩会跟我说“坐下，贝利，坐！”
and then he would climb on my rear end, forcing it to the ground, and then he would feed me a dog biscuit.
然后他会用手扶住我的屁股，让我屁股坐在地上，然后喂我狗饼干。
“Dog Door! Dog Door!” was a trick where we would go out to the “garage,” where Dad kept his car,
“狗门！狗门！”也是一个戏法，我们会去“车库”，爸爸把车停在那里，
and the boy would shove me through a plastic flap in the side door to the backyard.

Then he’d call for me and I’d push my nose through the flap and he’d feed me a dog biscuit!

My legs, I was gratified to see, kept growing with the rest of me, so that as the nights grew cooler I was able to keep up with the boy, even at a sprint.
我很高兴地看到，我的腿和身体的其他部分都在不断地生长，因此，哪怕夜晚变凉了，我也能跟上那个男孩，跑着也能跟上。
One morning, the dog door trick took on an entirely different meaning.
一天早上，狗门戏法的含义突然变了。
The boy was up early, barely after sunrise, and Mom was running in and out of different rooms.
那天早上，男孩起得很早，太阳刚出来没多久就起来。妈妈则在不同的房间里进进出出。
“Take care of Bailey!” Mom called at one point.
“照顾好贝利哦！”妈妈喊道。
I looked up from where I was giving a chew toy a serious working over, taking note of Smokey the cat,
本来在认真摆弄一根狗骨头的我抬起头，注意到那只叫斯莫基的猫，
who sat on the counter and gazed down upon me with insufferable haughtiness.
它坐在台子上，用一种令人受不了的傲慢神情俯视着我。
I picked up the chew toy and shook it to demonstrate to Smokey what a great time he was missing out on by being so snooty.
我叼起咀嚼玩具甩了甩，想向斯莫基证明，它的傲慢自大让它错过了一段多么美好的时光。
“Bailey!” the boy called. He was carrying my bed, and, intrigued, I followed him out to the garage.
“贝利！”男孩喊道。他抱着我的狗窝，引我跟他一起去往车库。
What was this game? “Dog Door,” the boy said to me. I sniffed his pockets but couldn’t smell any biscuits.
这是什么游戏?“又是狗门游戏哦”男孩对我说。我闻了闻他的口袋，但闻不到饼干的味道。
Since the whole point of playing Dog Door was, in my opinion, the dog biscuits, I decided to turn away and lift my leg on a bicycle.
因为在我看来，“狗门”游戏的全部意义在于狗饼干，所以我决定转过身去不跟他玩了。
