第八章
And so it went, day after day after day.
就这样，日复一日。
Hachi waited at the train station in the spring, when the cherry blossoms bloomed, and in the summer, when the rains came.
春天樱花盛开的时候，八公在火车站等待，夏天下雨的时候，八公还在火车站等待。
He waited in the autumn, when the leaves changed color, and in the winter, when the snow fell.
秋天，树叶变了颜色，他在等待，冬天，雪花飘飘，他依然在等待。
Day after day after day Hachi arrived at the train station just before three o' clock to meet the Professor.
一天又一天，八公总会在3点之前到达火车站去接教授。
Day after day after day he was disappointed. But he never gave up hope.
日复一日，他都会失望。但他从未放弃希望。
Mr. Yoshikawa did not know where Hachi went when he locked up the station at midnight.
吉川先生不知道半夜火车站上锁的时候，八公去了哪里。
He did not know where Hachi slept.
他不知道八公睡在哪里。
He did not know where Hachi spent the morning and the early part of the afternoon.
他不知道上午和下午早点的时候八公都在哪里。
But he did know where Hachi would be every day just before three o' clock: sitting on the platform waiting for his master.
但是他知道八公每天快到三点的时候会在哪里：坐在平台上等他的主人。
But instead of the Professor, now it was Yasuo who stepped of the train.
但是从火车上下来的不是教授，而是Yasuo。
Yasuo had turned ten on his last birthday, and now he was old enough to travel back and forth to school by himself.
Yasuo上个生日过后已经十岁了，现在他可以自己上下学了。
"Hello, Hachi,"Yasuo called to the dog sitting on the platform.
“哈罗，八公，”Yasuo对坐在站台上的狗喊道。
Hachi looked at Yasuo for a brief second, thumped his tail against the ground twice, and then turned his attention back to the crowd of people getting off the train.
八公看了Yasuo一眼，用尾巴在地上拍了两下，然后又把注意力转到下车的人群上。
"I will be there in a minute with your food,"Yasuo said, going into the Station Master's office to fill Hachi's bowl.
“我一会儿就把饭给你端来，”Yasuo说着走进站长的办公室，去给八公的碗里装上食物。
He placed it in front of the dog and stroked the fur between his ears while he ate.
他把食物放在狗面前，狗吃的时候，他抚摸着他两耳之间的毛发。
