and the cook, who was at that moment pulling the kitchen-boy by the hair to give him a box on the ear for something he had done amiss, let him go, and both fell asleep;
厨师此刻正抓住一个做错了事的厨童的头发，要给他一耳光，他们两个也定在那儿睡着了。
and so everything stood still, and slept soundly.
所有的一切都静止了，全都沉沉地睡去。
A high hedge of thorns soon grew around the palace, and every year it became higher and thicker,
没过多久，王宫周围长出了一道高高的荆棘篱笆，一年比一年高，一年比一年厚，
till at last the whole palace was surrounded and hidden, so that not even the roof or the chimneys could be seen.
最后竟将整座宫殿遮盖得严严实实，甚至连屋顶和烟囱也看不见了。
But there went a report through all the land of the beautiful sleeping Briar Rose, for thus was the king's daughter called;

so that from time to time several kings' sons came, and tried to break through the thicket into the palace.

This they could never do; for the thorns and bushes laid hold of them as it were with hands,
但都没有成功，那玫瑰数的藤蔓就像是人的手一样，牢牢地抓住，
and there they stuck fast and died miserably.
他们最终被困住，痛苦地死去了。
