portray sb / sth (as sb / sth)
将…描写成；给人以某种印象；表现
Throughout the trial, he portrayed himself as the victim.

track sb / sth down
搜寻到；跟踪找到；追查到
The police have so far failed to track down the attacker.
警方至今未能追捕到攻击者。

escalate (sth) (into sth)
(使)逐步扩大,不断恶化,加剧:
The fighting escalated into a full-scale war.
这场交战逐步扩大为全面战争。

stain (sth) (with sth)
(被)玷污；留下污渍:
I hope it doesn't stain the carpet.
希望它别把地毯弄脏。
