Master Shi Xuecheng, abbot of the Beijing-based Longquan Temple, has been removed from his post as deputy director of China's national ethnic and religious affairs body amid sexual assault accusations, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency.

The decision was made during the Fourth Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, which was convened on November 28-29 in Beijing, Xinhua reported.

The meeting also accepted Xuecheng's resignation as the member of the committee, Xinhua noted.
