Part B
Directions: Work with your partner to approach all the Chinese expressions in a pure American English way. Never make breaks in your dialogue and try to talk as if you were exactly the two roles with an exact sense of talking. Remember to keep your thinking and speaking way really American. You may omit, change or add something if necessary to adapt your ideas to the way Americans talk and think.
Sue: 你好,John.
Sue: I just 换了新工作。你能来真太好了(nice of you)。I wasn’t sure 你能来。
John: 多谢你邀请,but I’m afraid 我不能待太久(stay long)。
Sue: 怎么,any problem?
I’ve got someone to meet(It’s just that, later on)
Sue: 不管怎么样,也要 come in and have a drink.
John: 你工作进展如何(things go with you at work)?
Sue: 还可以。You know, 一年里面这个时间最忙的(what it’s like, this time of the year)。
Just wondering
John.
l Hi
Long time no see you.(符合中国语法的美语)
Ain’t see you for ages/a long time.
What are you busy on these day?
These day what are you working around the clock?
Sue: I just 换了新工作。你能来真太好了(nice of you)。I wasn’t sure 你能来。
l I just got a new job. It’s really nice of you to come. I wasn’t sure you’d make it.
所以换成you’d make it(你能行)。
John: 多谢你邀请,but I’m afraid 我不能待太久(stay long)。
l Thank you for your invitation, but I’m afraid I can’t stay long.
l 不去不去,最近太忙了,直译:no no no, I’m too busy,美国人会很受打击。
l I wish I could.
