[正] He failed in the project and was given both barrels by his boss.
注：在这里，barrel 是“枪筒”的意思。而 give sb. both barrels 指连续射击，狠狠打击对手，不给他喘息的机会。它与中文的“狗血淋头”不是一回事吗？
