Several hundred American citizens have already departed Sudan either by land, sea or air, this according to State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel on Friday, as fighting between the army and a rival paramilitary force has rocked the country.[qh]

International Committee of the Red Cross Emergency Director for East Africa Shashwat Saraf told The Associated Press Friday thousands of people are still in Khartoum in the middle of an active war zone.[qh]
