Violence broke out after hundreds of thousands of people rallied in downtown Barcelona on Saturday. That march began peacefully with 350,000 people gathering-angry over the jailing of nine separatist leaders. But later the demonstration turned violent as hundreds of mostly masked youths surrounded the National Police Headquarters throwing bottles and other objects. Police responded with foam bullets. 15 people were hurt including a police officer.
