German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at the age of 85. Lagerfeld was one of the industry's iconic and politic figures. As well as running his own fashion label, he's spent more than 30 years as creative director for Chanel. Tributes to the designer have been paid on social media from big names in the worlds of fashion and entertainment.
A major land, sea and air search will resume this morning for two missing tourists in northern New South Wales. Personal items belonging to Englishman Hugo Palmer and his French travel companion Erwan Ferrieux were found on Shelly Beach near Port MacQuarie on Sunday night, but police were not alerted until the following morning.
Queensland is bracing itself for tropical cyclone Oma with the system that brought devastating rain to the state's north a fortnight ago, now threatening Brisbane and the south-east. The weather bureau says dangerous surf conditions will continue to intensify today. The category 3 system, which caused damage in New Caledonia, isn't expected to make landfall, but it's already whipping up big swells and high tides.
And US senator Bernie Sanders has announced he's planning another run for president in the 2020 election. The independent senator from Vermont surprised many in 2016, when his grass-roots campaign secured the backing from 23 states and almost peaked Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic nomination. The 77 years old says that despite his age, he's confident voters will rally behind him against president Donald Trump.
