A bridge on a highway linking Italy with France collapsed Tuesday in the Italian port city of Genoa. The bridge, spanning an industrial area, crumbled sending vehicles plummeting nearly 150 feet. Officials say at least 22 people were killed and over 30 vehicles were crushed in the collapse.
In what police in London call a deliberate act, a man drove his car into a barrier near Parliament, injuring at least two people. Police have arrested the man they say was the driver and say no other suspect has been identified.
A grand jury report on the sexual abuse of children by clergy in 6 Pennsylvania Roman Catholic dioceses identified more than 1000 victims abused by more than 300 priests over a period of decades. Pennsylvania's Attorney General says the grand jury found a systematic cover-up by senior church officials in Pennsylvania and at the Vatican.
And in the Czech Republic, a rare newborn silvery gibbon has gone on public display at the Prague Zoo. The baby gibbon is the second successful gibbon birth at the zoo. The gibbon's number fewer than 4,000 in the wild. For now, the baby remains unnamed until its sex is known.
