Bao Bao appeared oblivious to her coming journey yesterday, as she napped in the Indian summer sun at Washington’s National Zoo. Fans came get one last glimpse of the three-year-old giant panda:
(Woman) “It’s so hard to let her go, so we had to be here for the last day.”
(Girl) “We came down to say goodbye… I was here when she was like first born.”
Bao Bao, whose parents are on loan, will take a 16-hour flight to China on a plane packed with 50 pounds of bamboo. Her departure is part of an agreement with China, which loaned her parents to the zoo. Those pandas, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, will remain in D.C.
