We begin with the latest on the U-S underwater drone that was captured by China in the South China Sea. Now the Chinese Defense Ministry says that the drone will be transferred back to the US in an appropriate manner.
The ministry spokesperson Yang Yujun said in an online statement that a Chinese naval lifeboat verified and examined the device in a professional and responsible manner, in order to prevent the device from causing harm to the safety of navigation and personnel of passing vessels.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon said both sides "have secured an understanding" over the issue. The U.S. President-elect Donald Trump also commented via twitter, calling the capture of the drone "an unprecedented act"——he took this down and corrected the spelling in a later tweet. Trump tweeted again hours later, saying that if it were up to him, he wouldn't ask for the drone back.
