If federal regulators get their way, swimming with the dolphins could soon be a thing of the past. Dozens of companies on various Hawaiian islands currently offer daily tours, allowing guests to frolic with the marine mammals.
But, the National Marine Fisheries Service is concerned nocturnal spinner dolphins aren’t getting enough rest during the day. Unlike the better-known Bottlenose, the spinner species is predictable and that makes them easier for tours to find.
Meantime, some tour operators say there has got to to be some sort of middle ground as oppose to an all out ban.
