Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted a joint news conference following their meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia. Putin says Russia will phase out sanctions against Turkey step-by-step, but the main priority will be to bring bilateral ties between the two countries back to their pre-crisis level. Putin added that Russia and Turkey have a common goal of resolving the crisis in Syria, and it is possible to resolve differences on how to handle it.
Erdogan says their talks have been "comprehensive and beneficial" and that Putin's phone call to him after last month's failed coup "meant a lot psychologically". Erdogan added that talks regarding the resumption of charter flights will be accelerated.
