The Olympic torch was relayed in Yuncheng and Pingyao on Monday in north China's Shanxi province.
In Yuncheng, the first leg of relay in Shanxi,Olympic handball bronze medalist Zhang Weihong led off on the 10-kilometer route as the first of 104 torchbears.
She then passed on the torch to Zheng Quandian, a psychologist who helped people rebuild confidence in the quake-hit regions.
"We are relaying the torch for peace, unity, and friendship. It also embodies people's confidence and resolution in building our nation stronger."
Located in a traditionally agricultural region, Yuncheng is characterized by flat lands, fertile soil and a warm climate.
The torch will be relayed in Taiyuan, capital city of Shanxi on Thursday.
