China has decided to downgrade the level of its diplomatic relations with Lithuania to that of charge d'affaires.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement this morning.

It comes after Lithuania allowed Taiwan to establish what it calls a "Taiwan Representative Office" in Lithuania, that's despite protests from China.
此前，立陶宛方面不顾中方的严正抗议，允许台湾在立陶宛设立所谓的“台湾代表处”。
Beijing said the move goes against the One-China Principle, which is the universal consensus of the international community.
中方表示，此举违反了国际社会普遍共识的一个中国原则。
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson had this to say.
中国外交部发言人就此进行了如下的表态。
"We ask Lithuania to correct the wrong decision immediately.
“我们敦促立陶宛方面立即纠正错误。
And we also solemnly warn the Taiwan authorities that the attempt to resort to foreigners to seek independence is a wrong calculation, and is doomed to fail.
我们也正告台湾当局，妄图挟洋谋“独”是打错了算盘，注定逃脱不了失败的下场。
As for what necessary measures China will take, everyone will wait and see.
至于中方将采取何种必要措施，大家可以拭目以待。
Lithuania only has itself to blame. It will have to pay for what it did."
立方咎由自取，必将自食其果。”
