This is Everyday Grammar. I'm Kaveh.
欢迎收看《每日语法》栏目,我是卡维。
And I'm Lucija. Today we are going to talk about some changes in pronoun usage.
我是露西佳,今天我们将探讨关于代词用法的某些变动。
Hey Lucija, you wouldn't believe what happened to me this morning.
嘿,露西佳,你肯定不会相信今天早上发生在我身上的事儿。
Are you OK?
你还好吧?
Of course I'm OK, silly. Look what I've found.
我当然好,傻瓜。看一看我发现了什么,
Someone left his wallet on the train. But there's no ID, so I don't know who to return it to.
有人把他的钱包落火车票了,但里面有没有我身份证,所以我不知道要还给谁。
Well Kaveh, how do you know if the owner is a he? It could belong to a woman.
哦,但是卡维,你怎么知道钱包的主人是位男性呢?也可能是某位女士的。
OK fine. Someone left his or her wallet on the train.
好吧,有人将他/她的钱包落火车上了。
Well, sometimes you don't know if you're talking about a man or a woman.
嗯,有时候你不知道你说到的那个人是男是女,
This can cause some confusion with pronouns.
这个时候用代词会造成一定的困扰。
In the past, we used he for all people.
过去,人们喜欢用he(他)指代所有人。例如:
Everyone has his own opinion.
每个人都有他自己的看法。
But just using his excludes women.
但是使用his就将女性排除在外了,
So starting in the 1970s, people started using his or her.
所以自20世纪70年代开始,人们开始用his/her来分别指代男性或女性。例如:
Everyone has his or her own opinion.
每个人都有他/她自己的看法。
These days, more people are using their to refer to men and women.
如今,更多的人使用their来指代男性和女性,例如:
Everyone has their own opinion.
每个人都有她们自己的看法。
Wait, wait, wait. You can't say everyone has their…!
等等,等等,their不能这样表达,
Everyone is singular and there is plural.
everyone是单数名词,their是复数形式。
You're right. But grammar is always changing.
你说得对,但语法是变化着的,
These days a lot of publications are using their, they and them as singular pronouns.
如今有很多的出版物将their/they/them用作单数代词。
So it's OK to say "Everyone had their…"
所以,“Everyone had their….”这种说法也是可以的。
Well, it depends. It is certainly becoming more popular.
嗯,视情况而定。可以肯定的是,它越来越流行,
But when it comes to changing grammar rules, everyone has his…her…or their own opinion.
但一旦涉及到语法规则的更改,每个人都有他/她/她们自己的看法。
And that's Everyday Grammar.
以上就是今天节目的全部内容。
