Construction on China's most advanced nuclear reactor to begin Thursday
中国开建最先进核反应堆
The Hualong One is China’s first nuclear reactor to be constructed with the most recent advances in the field. It was designed jointly by the China General Nuclear Power Group and China National Nuclear Corporation.
It draws on more than 20 years of experience of Chinese nuclear power operators and follows the world's leading design philosophy, making it in line with the highest safety standards for nuclear reactors in the world.
The reactor is designed to have a lifetime of at least 60 years. With around 85 percent of its components made domestically, Hualong One is fully compliant with all the safety standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
A standardised design also makes it suitable for wide deployment. Projects in Pakistan and Argentina that will use Hualong One technology are proceeding well. It has raised interest among enterprises from other countries like the UK, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
