So, Keith, have you ever heard of the Ring of Fire?

Well, basically the Ring of Fire is a massive path of volcanoes, running along the edges of the Pacific Ocean.

About 75% of all volcanoes live on or around the Ring of Fire, which is about 25,000 miles long.

Okay, so what exactly created this Ring of Fire?

Well, it's a result of the plate tectonics we talked about earlier.

There are several plates that make up the Ring of Fire.

In the middle, we have the Pacific plate, which is surrounded by the North American plate, the South American plate, the Eurasian plate, the Indo-Australian plate, the Cocos plate, the Philippine plate, the Juan de Fuca plate and the Nazca plate.

So as the massive plates shift and move against each other, huge plate collisions happen along its borders, causing a lot of volcanic activity, and there you have it -- the Ring of Fire.
