UN Reports Record Number of Displaced People

The UN Refugee Agency released a report this week ahead of World Refugee Day (June 20) confirming that there are more displaced people in the world than ever before. Over 65 million people around the world are currently displaced. Many have fled to safer places internally in their own nations, while others have crossed borders and become refugees. At least 12 million of the displaced people in the world are from Syria. A variety of countries are hosting the refugees, including Turkey, Pakistan, and Uganda. By releasing these numbers, the UN hopes that wealthy nations will do more to help promote peace and take in refugees.
