The ranking released today by Quacquarelli Symonds, a British organization specializing in education and studying abroad, lists the top 200 universities and colleges in the world.

What is QS World University Rankings?
什么是QS世界大学排名？
The QS World University Rankings are based on four key pillars, research, teaching, employability and internationalization and the methodology consists of academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international students, and international faculty.
QS世界大学排名主要参考以下六个方面的指数来衡量：学术领域的同行评价（全球雇主声誉），全球雇主评价（全球雇主声誉），教师/学生比例（师生比），单位教职的论文引用数（师均论文发表数），国际学生比例和国际教师比例。
Currently there are four versions of such lists regarding top world universities: QS World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), US News Best Clobal Universities and Times World University Rankings.
目前，世界上有四种权威通用的全球性大学排名榜单：QS世界大学排名，美国新闻与世界报道——世界大学排行榜，世界大学学术排名以及泰晤士高等教育世界大学排名。
The Overview of the List

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was at the top of the ranking, while Harvard University took up the second place and the University of Cambridge shares the third place with Stanford University.

For Asian universities, National University of Singapore ranks the 12th of the ranking, also the top place among all the Asian universities, while Nanyang Technological University, also in Singapore, ranks the 13th. Those are the only two Asian universities ranking in the top 20.
亚洲方面，新加坡国立大学以第12名的位置领跑亚洲大学，南洋理工大学上升26位排名第13。这两所学校也是此次排名榜单中，仅有的两所跻身前20名的亚洲高校。此次前20强大学仍以英美高校居多。

For Chinese universities, there are 7 Chinese mainland universities ranking among the top 200, with 4 of them ranking among the top 100.
此次共有7所中国大陆院校和5所香港学校进入200强，其中有4所大陆院校进入全球百强大学。
They’re Tsinghua University at 25th, Peking University at 41st, Fudan University at 51st, Shanghai Jiaotong University at 70th, Zhejiang University at 110th, University of Science and Technology of China at 113th, and Nanjing University at 130th.
这些学校是：清华大学（第25），北京大学（第41），复旦大学（第51），上海交通大学（第70），浙江大学（第110），中国科学技术大学（第113）以及南京大学（第130）。
Tsinghua University ranks the 25th among the whole list for the first time and the 3rd among all Asian academies. It’s the first time that a Chinese mainland university ranks in the top 25 since 2006.
此次清华大学首次进入全球25名，亚洲排名第3，自2006年后首次将中国大陆带入世界25强大学。
Specifically, Peking University has both the best academic and employer reputation among all the Chinese academies on the list. Peking University also scores more points on international students and faculty ratio than Tsinghua University, but less points on faculty/student ratio and citations per faculty.
具体分析，北京大学在全球学术声誉和雇主声誉上位列中国第一，在国际学位生和国际教职工两项，高于清华，却在”师生比”和”师均论文发表数”上稍许失分，位列中国大陆第二。
As far as 'citations per faculty’ are concerned, the University of Science and Technology of China performed the best among all Chinese universities, with Nanjing University and Tsinghua University ranking the 2nd and 3rd place.

The list shows that Chinese universities still need improvement on 'faculty/student ratio’, 'international students’ ratio’ and 'international faculty ratio’.
