Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning Province，about 805kms north of Beijing. The city used to be known as Mukden，a name used by the Tartar people who once ruled the area. It has a history of more than 3 000 years. When the Manchurians seized Beijing in 1644 and established the Qing dynasty with Beijing as its capital，Mukden became its secondary capital and remained so far 350 years. Today Shenyang is one of China's major industrial centers thanks，to the rich deposits of coal，iron ore and nonferrous ore throughout Liaoning Province.
沈阳是辽宁省省会，在北京北面805公里处。城市旧时称为谋克敦(盛京)，是当时统治该地区的鞑靼人所使用的名称。沈阳有着3 000多年的历史。1644年，满洲人占领了北京，建立了清朝，并定北京为首都，谋克敦成为陪都，并持续了350年。如今，由于辽宁省境内到处都是丰富的煤、铁矿和非金属矿藏，沈阳成为中国的重要工业城市。
Shenyang，the largest city in Northeast China，is the political，economic，and cultural center of Liaoning Province. It is also an important industrial base and a famous historical city. As the host city of the 2006 International Horticultural Exposition and venue for the football(soccer) matches of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games，Shenyang will soon be the focus of world-wide attention.

Shenyang is located in the central part of Liaoning Province. Its climate is relatively dry most of the year with spikes in precipitation during the summer months due to the influence of monsoons. Temperatures vary as much as 10 degrees Celsi-us from daytime to night，and in winter they can drop to as low as-29 degrees Cel-sius or even lower，so the smart travelers will plan to dress in layers.

On November 2，1948，Shenyang was liberated formally and being decided as a municipality directly under the leadership of the Central Government in 1953.Then in 1954，it was changed into a city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Provincial Government. Today，Shenyang Municipality has jurisdiction over 9 districts and 4counties( or cities).The total area of Shenyang Municipality is 13 000 sq.km. with a population of about 7 600 000.
1948年11月2日，沈阳正式解放。1953年，沈阳被定为中央直辖市。1954年，沈阳市又被改为辽宁省省辖市。至今，沈阳市辖9个区和4个县(市)，总面积为1.3万平方公里，人口约760万。
