女权运动 Women’s Rights
Nikki K. One compelling illustration that some failure always accompanies progress is demonstrated in the Women’s Rights movement. Around the 1930s women started to question their role in society. Why were women not allowed a say in the government? Why couldn’t men and women possess the same rights? During a protest in front of the White House, women were arrested and sent to a special prison. In order to become noticed, the National Women’s Rights association In a literal sense sacrificed those who were arrested and replaced them with more women. This process repeated itself until, Alice Paul, a Women’s Rights leader, protested in front of the White House herself. She joined her comrades in the prison, where they were abused and mistreated. Finally once their mistreatment was exposed to the public, the President of the United States set them free and granted their wishes of equality and rights. Their sacrifices were not in vain as the women were able to accomplish their goal and change the country forever.
