Exercise 3.1
I spent the Chinese New Year
with the Zhang family in Beijing.
There are certain traditions that
people follow on New Year's Day.
It was very interesting to look at them.
I woke up very early
on the first day of the New Year.
Everybody in the family more new clothes.
This is a tradition for New Year.
Mrs .Zhang made some special cakes
from rice flour.
We ate the cakes and drank some tea.
In the afternoon,
we went to visit some of the Zhangs'
friends and neighbors and wished them
all a Happy New Year.
During the day,
Mr. and Mrs.Zhang gave small red packets
containing money to young friends
and to children.
Lucy told me that this tradition is called
Hong Bao- or Red Packet.
Red is a lucky color in China.
