Tim: The last time I said hello to a girl in a place like this, she thought I was coming on to her and blew me off before I had a chance to introduce myself.

Tim说到的blew me off是什么意思呢？今天，我们就来学习这个“原味美语”表述：blow somebody off，blew是动词blow的过去式。

Blow sb. off有很多意思。在这里，Tim表达的意思是：to neglect or ignore someone，译为：不理睬某人，忽视忽略某人。例如：

I walked up to that girl to say hello but she blew me off. （我走到那个女孩身边打招呼，可是她却不理我。）

Blow somebody off除了“不理睬”的意思之外，还可以表示“to end a romantic relationship with somebody”，译为：结束与某人的恋爱关系。例如：

I thought she loved me, but he blew me off for Barbara. （我以为他喜欢我，可以他喜欢Barbara，而拒绝了我。）

PS：要表示“结束和某人的恋爱关系而和另外一人有恋爱关系”，在短语的后面用介词for，即：blow sb. off for...

Blow sb. off 还可以表示“to deliberately not meet sb. when you said you would ”，译为：（故意）失约。例如：

I had a date with Jenny this evening, however, I waited two hours in the cafe and she just blew me off. （我今晚和Jenny约会，但是我在咖啡厅里等了2个小时，她还是没来。）

In addition，Juliet提醒大家blow sb. off作为“忽略忽视某人，不理睬某人”的意思时是非书面正式用语，那么用标准英语如何说这句话：She thought I was coming on to her and blew me off before I had a chance to introduce myself. 我们可以用ignore来进行替换，即：She thought I was coming on to her and ignore me before I had a chance to introduce myself.

All right，大家现在知道Tim为何不愿意去和那位女生打招呼的原因了吗？I think the reason is：Tim经历过挫折不想再遭受被女孩拒绝的心理上的伤痛，因为他曾经主动去和以为女生打招呼，可是却被女生想歪了，想到他要吃她的豆腐，这可不是君子干的事情。
