汉语中，我们要说一个人“没有主见”时，常说他“耳根子软”，你知道英语里是怎么说的吗？ 英语中把“耳朵”和“鼻子”错位了，说成a nose of wax。Are you a nose of wax?（你是一个没有主见的人吗？）

《牛津英语大词典》把a nose of wax解释为a person easily influenced, one of a weak character（无主见的人、易受摆布的人）。早在1532年，这个短语就出现在书面用语中。现在，这个短语不太常用，通常只有在最高法院的称述中才能听到这个短语。
