Message from Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on the Occasion of the International Day of Nowruz

Nowruz is the celebration for the New Year for millions of people worldwide. Meaning "new day", it is the first day of spring, symbolizing rebirth and hope.
诺鲁孜节是全世界数百万人庆贺新年的节日。“诺鲁孜”的意思是“新的一天”，它是春天的第一天，象征着重生和希望。
Across many countries in Asia and the Caucasus, and around the world, these annual festivities are a time to enjoy the richness of human creativity – costumes, dance, food, poetry, music, sports and crafts. Many of the traditions celebrate the resurgence of nature and encourage respect for our environment.
在亚洲和高加索以及世界各地的许多国家开展的这些一年一度的庆祝活动，可以让我们体验到人类在服装、舞蹈、饮食、诗歌、音乐、体育和手工艺等方面的丰富创造力。相关许多传统活动的主旨，都在于礼赞春回大地万物复苏，倡导尊重我们的环境。
These practices and traditions evoke the power of culture and heritage as a force for sustainable development and as a wellspring of knowledge and creativity, and are recognized by UNESCO as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. At a time when culture is under threat from the forces of change in our world, UNESCO protects not only monuments, objects and landscapes, but also these precious practices, beliefs, knowledge and traditions, which can be even more fragile, their continuity relying solely on memory and transmission from generation to generation.
这些传统和习俗提醒着我们，文化和遗产是促进可持续发展的力量，也是知识与创造力的源泉，教科文组织也因此将其认定为人类非物质文化遗产的一部分。在文化受到世界变革力量威胁之际，教科文组织不仅保护古迹、文物和景观，也保护这些传统、习俗、信仰和知识，它们弥足珍贵但往往又十分脆弱，因为它们之所以延续至今，完全有赖于一代一代的记忆和传承。
The International Day of Nowruz represents an opportunity for all of us to embrace the values of this celebration, and to carry forward its message of peace and harmony. By promoting an inclusive social fabric that is respectful of cultural diversity, we can all contribute to security and prosperity, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. This Nowruz, let us be inspired by its promise of a more solidary, creative and peaceful world.
国际诺鲁孜节为我们大家提供了一个契机，去弘扬这一节庆活动的内在价值，传递其中所蕴含的和平与和谐的信息。通过促进尊重文化多样性的包容性社会机体，我们每个人都可以为安全与繁荣以及可持续发展目标的实现作出贡献。今年的国际诺鲁孜节，让我们从这个节日本身所承载的对一个更加团结、更富有创造性以及更加和平的世界的希冀中汲取灵感。
