Every September, more than half a million Magellanic penguins come back from the sea, to have babies and raise these young penguins.They stay at Punta Tombo for six months.
Penguins have one partner for life and each pair returns to the same next location year after year. This colony appears to be thriving, but wildlife biologists believe these penguins could face serious threats to their future. In recent years, overfishing in the areas where the birds feed and pollution from oil tankers have killed thousands of penguins along Argentina's coast.
This situation is repeated in other places around the globe. As a result, most of the world's penguin species outside of Antarctica areas are now endangered. Experts say only urgent international conservation measures can save them, this is Jim Wilson for TV8 news in Argentina.
