In 1892, brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright opened a bicycle-repair company.The brothers were specialists in this area,but they were more interested in something else-aircraft. The brothers used the company to support their flying machine research and experiments. There were many people trying to build flying machines at the time. The brothers studied them and began their experiments in 1899. On December 17, 1903, Orville made the first flight in their plane,the Flyer 1,and he flew 39 metres in 12 seconds. Wilbur piloted the plane later that day and flew it 279 metres in 59 seconds.During their research, the Wright brothers always worked together. They made great contributions to the development of aircraft.
